Kayeri Akweks is an enrolled member of the Upper Mohawk on the 6 Nations Reserve, Ontario, Canada. She lives and works in Lawrence, Kansas, home of Haskell All Indian Nations University.
A wide range of cultural and environmental experiences and principles inspire Kayeri Akweks’ drawings, paintings, and prints. She draws upon Native environmental values, historical, archetypal and personal symbols, and transitional life moments. She researches historic and current Northeastern Woodlands art forms to inform her own art making.
In 1980, Kayeri Akweks earned a Bachelors of Arts in Art from Brigham Young University. She worked for over 30 years in higher education administration, while pursuing art and raising her family. Akweks transitioned to being a professional artist in January 2012. She is currently pursuing an MFA-IA at Goddard College.
Kayeri actively participates with Native artists communities in the U.S. and Canada.
